Depression

Media - Pencil

My piece depicts a woman staring out for help while covering one eye with hand for her  struggle. The most obvious element is value. The most obvious principle is contrast.

To create this piece I used values made by lead to create darker values of the portrait and using a stump to even out the values.

My inspiration for this piece was to find a challenge and attempt to place an emotion on her without any trouble doing so. The emotion I tried to convey was depression.

My goal as an artist was to challenge myself with something new and different values in it.

I reached my goal because I see different values blending together from last year. By doing this piece, I learned how to use shading and values while adding details to the piece.

Mother  Hen

Media - Plaster

The piece was created by newspaper and paint. To make it a square tissue box was the body. A piece of wire was to make its tale and for the egg. Newspaper was used surround the tissue box and the wire. And last, light brown paint was used to make the color of the hen and the egg.

The inspiration was for this piece was that a hen protects and care for it's child. It comforts someone who was always been protected and cared for in life while they grew up. I attempted to show how comfort is and time.

My goal was something realistic and simple in some parts of the hen/chicken. Painting on paper mache was difficult since it was hard to put paint on some parts of it. The process took time and changing my mind caused a problem for it to be done.

After all I feel like its done but needs to be worked to be completed. I will try to focus more to complete it with good results at a later date.

Woodcutting

Media - Prismacolor

This piece shoes an axe in a tree with three stumps in the ground having dark colors to it. The axe handle is close while the stumps are farther back in the piece. The first element you see is color because how dark the trees are in the piece. The first element seen is emphasis because of the proportion in the piece.

The piece was created by prismacolor and different techniques to make the piece. Used heavy pressure to make it blend in the piece with the bark and axe handle. Lighter colors were used to make the inside of the tree and darker colors for the bark.

My inspiration for the piece was that someone was cutting down trees because of paranoia they had. The wood cutting made me think how long it would take to cut a patch of trees because of paranoia and other reasons.

My goal was to make the trees and the axe stand out with the use of prismacolors I picked out and attempted to make it realistic. Needed some help in the end  with the trees but it's done for now and later be worked on.

Overall, the piece needs to be worked to be counted as complete to me. Its looks realistic enough but needs details added to be done. I will attempt to make the next one better than in texture and in design with time and effort.

Addiction

Media -   Pencil/Charcoal

The piece shows a train wreck with end on a banner above it, a bottle,  cards, money, a knife, and a rope in the piece. The element that shows the most is value. Since the piece had darker areas around the things could cause death. The principle that can be seen the  most is contrast.  Since it had few light sources in the picture since it had a negative feeling about it.

The piece was created by pencil and charcoal. Used pencil to outline then shade in the places where it would be dark. After doing that I used Charcoal to make places darker and make somewhat 3D.  Used red to make it seem bad and green for being lively in bad place.

My inspiration for this piece is because of my gambling addiction for random things.  It keeps feeding my desire to do it even if it causes trouble for me.  People gamble away their lives for some amount of release of pressure from people.  It's difficult to let go of something you enjoy since it had memories about it.

My goal was to show the process of gambling and what can happen in the end.  Had some problems in the process of making it and thinking of a name for it. It helped enough but won't stop some from doing what they enjoy doing.

Overall, the piece is great for the amount of time I took to do it. The process taught me that I do well with pencil projects and outlines of pieces.  The piece turned out exactly the way I wanted it to be since it was planned out.  It influenced the way I work with pencil since it's simple to do.

 Greed

Media - Acrylic Paint

My piece depicts a cartoon heart with five dollar bill burning with smoke coming off of it. The most obvious element is value. The most obvious principle is emphasis.

To create this piece I used values made by red acrylic paint to create darker red values of the master's style and using paint brushes to even out the red with water on it.

My inspiration for this piece was to find out how to make something stand out and understand what it's trying to stand. The emotion I tried to convey was purity.

My goal as an artist was to challenge myself with blending and understand the message while painting it.

I reached my goal because I know how to blend better than last year. By doing this piece, I learned how to use time responsible and finish while blending it together.

Finger Gun

Media - PrismaColor

The piece shows a finger gun from an image online. Two elements I used was color and value in the piece. And it was done by the use of three colors to try to make it as  realistic I can do. One principle can be seen as contrast with the green and orange being at different values. Can be seen as where the light shows and does not show on the hand.

The piece was created with six prismacolors to make the piece in darker and lighter places. Started with white in lighter areas than light pressure with some colors in different areas. After that darker colors were used to try to make realistic in darker areas of the hand.

The inspiration for the piece was seeing different hand movements online. The finger gun made me pay attention more because it could point in different directions when done so.

My goal was trying to blend and make it as realistic as I possibly can with the prismacolors with details in it. It was difficult with the colors being but it was done in a timely manner.

Overall, the piece could have be done better. It's realistic but it needs to be burnished to make it look semi-realistic. I will try to make drawings better with prismacolors with practice and in time.

Lantern

Media -   Clay

The piece shows rain drops, snail coils, a snake and a nest with three eggs. The element that shows the most is shape.  I used different coils to make the lantern by using snail coil, rain drops, a twist, and a long coil. The principle that shows the most is movement. The coils show movement with rain drops holding the snake and snail coils.

The piece was created by clay. Used different types of coils to make the clay lantern with different patterns. Had to smooth it out with a spoon and fingers, and cut out pieces to make the lantern. Pushed down the top of the rain drops to have the coils stay together with the piece.

My inspiration was that I have candles sitting around so, I wanted to have a candle holder for when it is needed.  Having a different way of how it looks like to the regular lantern and holder around the home. While having a good feeling to it to have it around while it is on.

My goal for this piece was to make it better than last year with different patterns and a function to it. Had slight problems at the beginning since I had to smoothed it out and blending it together inside of it. The process to make the lantern with clay took a while but, it was done in a timely matter.

Overall, the piece is done well for the time it took to do. The piece shows me that I can do clay well but needs practice to be good at it. The piece is how I imagined it to be with a slight difference to it. Clay can be difficult but, enjoyable to master it and do well in it.
